Western Kentucky continued their hot streak of 2018 commits for the month of July when Mario Wright of Flossmoor, Illinois, announced on Twitter where he would attend college.

The 6’2”, 205-pounder is ranked #1025 nationally by 247 Sports and as the #40 inside linebacker. He’s also the 23rd ranked recruit in the state of Illinois. Wright had 13 scholarship offers on the table. His top six also included Syracuse, Western Michigan, Wyoming, Northern Illinois, and Miami (OH).
Wright’s high school seems to play a defensive style that’s similar to WKU’s in that it’s more pass defense first and requires the linebacker to cover a lot of ground. Wright’s filled that role nicely, so Tops fans can be optimistic about how his game will translate at the collegiate level.
Wright is the 14th member of WKU’s 2018 class and the second linebacker in the group. He also becomes the ninth commitment for the month of July. If the past month is any indication, Mike Sanford’s staff is building a solid foundation for the future.
The Tops currently have the best recruiting class in C-USA according to 247 Sports.
