Separated by only 30 minutes of highway, the Texas Longhorns and Texas State Bobcats have met only once, in 1930.
That all changes when Texas hosts their distant cousin to the south in 2026.
The Bobcats will travel to Austin on September 5th to take on the Longhorns in Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium.
Texas State last played Texas in the 1930 season opener, losing 36-0.
In 1930 Texas State was known as Southwest Texas State Teachers College and Royal Memorial Stadium held only 27,000.
Texas State has not defeated a Power 5 conference opponent since beating Rice 31-6 in 1986 when the Owls were a member of the old Southwest Conference.
Texas State also extended their series with UTSA and will play the Roadrunners in 2020 and then in consecutive seasons from 2023-2031 .
The “I-35 Rivalry” spans both schools’ sports programs. UTSA leads the football series 3-0 (wins in 2012, 2017 and 2018).
2020’s contest will take place at Bobcat Stadium where the Roadrunners handed the Bobcats a 44-14 beatdown in 2017.
