National Signing Day is here and Texas State has bolstered their roster by inking five new Bobcats. This adds to the previous 10 commits added during the early signing period nearly two months ago.
North Shore defensive lineman Jordan Revels is a 6’0” 244 lbs. two-star recruit who was a pivotal leader on North Shore’s state championship team and will give the ‘Cats some more depth in the defensive trenches of the 4-3 defense.
Cornerback Khambrail Winters from Houston’s Alief Taylor High School and Texarkana safety DeJordan Mask are some recruits that will reinforce the secondary. Winters is 6’0” 180 lbs. and Mask is 6’1” 180 lbs. and described by head coach Jake Spavital as, “very long and very physical”.
Two receivers were signed in Kenny Frazier from Opelousas, LA and Micah Hilts from Vista Ridge in Colorado Springs, CO. Frazier is a quick 5’10” receiver who brings a 4.0 GPA and a 4.4 40 to the table. Hilts is a former basketball player and will convert to tight end that Coach Spavital compared to NFL star tight ends Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski: “This guy’s our matchup problem.”
“We are a space driven offense”, Spavital added about the offensive signings, “We want to make them guard every single inch of the field so these guys, if you miss a tackle they have the ability to score a touchdown.”
With today’s signings the Bobcats have 83 scholarships active.
March 3rd will be when the first practice of 2019 takes place with six practices before Spring Break and nine after. The annual Spring Game takes place April 13th.
“I’m fired up to get to work with these kids.” Coach Spavital exclaimed, “Signing Day’s over, now we can get to work.”
