Last Meeting: Louisiana won 48-38 in 2018

Betting Line: Louisiana -28, O/U: 53.5

Coming off of his historic performance against Coastal Carolina, quarterback Levi Lewis is looking to leading Louisiana’s offense on the path to history.

Lewis was 26-of-30 for 296 yards and three touchdowns last week. Lewis’s completion percentage of 86.7 percent set a new school record, previously set last season by Andre Nunez for his performance against Grambling in 2018’s season opener. This performance was by far the best Lewis has had in Vermilion and White, and the Cajuns are hoping for similar results out of their junior quarterback as they head down the final stretch of the 2019 season.

However, the Cajuns still have three games left on the schedule for the year, and it starts in Mobile, Alabama on Saturday as the South Alabama Jaguars (1-8) host Louisiana (7-2) in a 4 p.m. contest televised on ESPN+.

Louisiana, who comes into Saturday’s matchup with the fifth-best rushing attack in the country, dominated Coastal Carolina with their passing attack. Lewis distributed the ball to 14 different receivers in the contest. Expect the Cajuns to get to their dominance on the ground this week though, as the Jaguars come into the game with one of the worst rushing defenses in the nation, coming in at 107 out of 130.

It appears that the Jags will start freshman quarterback Desmond Trotter on Saturday, who made his first career start last week against Texas State, going 16-of-26 for 207 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball 21 times for 38 yards. Running back Tra Minter is having a solid year with 744 yards rushing so far. Minter is 57 yards away from his season best of 801 yards that was set last season by the senior from Ellaville, GA.

For betting purposes, the spread, according to the ESPN PickCenter, is Louisiana -28 with an over/under of 53.5.

You can tune into the Cajuns radio broadcast on ESPN1420 in Lafayette or download the ESPN1420 app if you’re elsewhere. Pregame show is at 2 p.m. with the broadcast being turned over to the Voice of the Cajuns, Jay Walker, at 3:30 p.m.
