Ragin' Cajuns Add Southeastern Louisiana to 2017 Schedule

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns will open the 2017 season on Sept. 2 against in-state opponent, Southeastern Louisiana.

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns have their 2016 schedule set, but still need to work on the 2017 season. Thursday, the team took a step closer to getting there with the addition of Southeastern Louisiana to their non-conference schedule.

SLU and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns will face off on Sept. 2 in 2017. This makes for their third non-conference game set for the 2017 season with Tulsa and Texas A&M being the other two. The Ragin' Cajuns will face those two teams on Sept 9. (at Tulsa) and Sept. 16 (at Texas A&M).

These two teams have played 39 times since 1930 with the Ragin' Cajuns holding the series lead at 19-17-3. Many of these games came between 1948-1970 when both were a part of the Gulf States Conference, which is no longer in existence.

Like this year's in-state opponent, McNeese State, SLU has had recent success in the FCS. The Lions made it to the FCS playoffs in both 2013 and 2014. Scott Farmer, the school's Athletic Director, clearly likes to schedule in-state non-conference opponents like McNeese State and SLU, as this will make for the sixth straight year where the Ragin' Cajuns will have faced one.

With this addition to SLU's schedule, they will have played every FBS program in the state of Louisiana since bringing back football in 2003 by the end of the 2018 season.
