Week 3 Of the Conference USA Roundup Is Here

There were big wins, tough losses, and much more in Conference USA this weekend.

It was a week of near misses for Conference USA, as Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky had Power 5 opponents on the ropes but were unable to seal the deal. Brent Stockstill of Middle Tennessee displayed pinpoint accuracy in a brilliant offensive display for the Blue Raiders. Check out Week 3 of the C-USA roundup:

Saturday, September 19

Buffalo 33, Florida Atlantic 15: In Jason Driskel's first career start at QB for the Owls, Buffalo scored 26 points off of five FAU turnovers. Full recap.

Rice 38, North Texas 24: Three turnovers led to opportunities for an impressive Rice offense to get ahead on the scoreboard and stay there as North Texas fought an uphill battle for most of the game. Full recap.

Kansas State 39, Louisiana Tech 33 (3 OT): Louisiana Tech led 10-6 at halftime and held a 20-13 lead late in the fourth quarter, but a couple of untimely miscues gave Kansas State opportunities to score and the Bulldogs needed a last minute drive to force overtime. Full recap.

Oklahoma State 69, UTSA 14: Seven turnovers doomed UTSA in blowout loss to Oklahoma State. Full recap.

Marshall 45, Norfolk State 7: Freshman quarterback Chase Litton made his first collegiate start in place of injured Michael Birdsong and turned in a record-breaking performance for Marshall. Full recap.

Indiana 38, Western Kentucky 35: The Hilltoppers took their first loss of the year, as a 28-17 halftime lead disappeared and Indiana scored 21 unanswered points. Full recap.

FIU 39, North Carolina Central 14: FIU took care of business against an FCS foe on Saturday, as Alex McGough completed 22-of-36 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns. Alex Gardner rushed for 81 yards and a score, and Dennis Turner, Thomas Owens, and Jonnu Smith caught touchdown passes for the Golden Panthers. FIU's defense held NC Central to just 38 yards rushing on the day.

Middle Tennessee 73, Charlotte 14: MTSU scored an eye-popping six touchdowns in the first quarter and cruised to an easy victory. Brent Stockstill was incredible, going 23-of-27 passing for 369 yards and five touchdowns. Jordan Parker (142 yards, three TDs) and Desmond Anderson (102 yards, TD) eclipsed the century mark on the ground. Terry Pettis caught four passes for 167 yards and two scores. Ed'Marques Battle caught five passes for 120 yards and three scores.

Southern Miss 56, Texas State 50: An eye-popping 106 points and 1204 yards later, the visitors from Hattiesburg emerged from the defensive wreckage victorious in a 56-50 shootout. Full recap.

NC State 38, Old Dominion 14: Matt Dayes ran for 108 yards, Shadrach Thornton added 92 in his first game back from suspension, and Jacoby Brissett added another 43 yards in the Wolfpack's easy victory. Full recap.

UTEP 50, New Mexico State 47 (OT): The Miners played flat and uninspired for three of four quarters, and found themselves down 14 points on two separate occasions in the 4th quarter, but somehow found a way to pull out the 50-47 overtime win. Full recap.
