The Mountaineers added immediate depth to its defensive line on Thursday with the addition of Markell Clark out of Dacula, Georgia.

Clark committed to Navy in 2016 while spending the year at the Navy Preparatory academy. He decommitted on May 30th and quickly received offers from several teams, including Georgia State and Appalachian State. Just two days after receiving the Mountaineer’s offer, Clark committed.

Before the preparatory academy, Clark was a hard-hitting nose guard with active hands for Spain Park High School in Hoover, Alabama. His excellent vision and release allows him to make plays at the point of attack. Clark could develop into a first and second down run stopper rather quickly for App State.

During his time at Dacula High School and senior year at Spain Park, Clark tallied 92 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and six sacks. Clark, who retains all four years of eligibility after his year at the Academy, will get a chance to learn behind rising junior Myquon Stout, an honorable mention for 2016 All-Sun Belt teams.

App State’s 2017 recruiting class will finish sixth in the Sun Belt per 247 Sports.
