The American Athletic Conference’s top defensive player is looking to continue his college career elsewhere.

UTSA outside linebacker Trey Moore announced his entry to the transfer portal Tuesday, releasing a statement to explain his decision.

Moore won the 2023 AAC Defensive Player of the Year honors and became a First Team All-AAC selection for an incredible season as a pass rusher. The star pass rusher currently ranks third nationally in sacks with 14.0 on the season, rounding out an impressive 2023 stat-line with 45 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

His 14.0 sacks are the most in a single-season in UTSA history and the second-most in a year by any player in AAC history, only trailing Marcus Smith’s 16.0 with Louisville in 2013. He is tied with former first round NFL Draft pick Marcus Davenport for most career sacks in UTSA history with 22.0.

Moore produced at least 3.0 sacks in three separate games this year. In recognition for his dominance, he was rewarded the AAC Defensive Player of the Week award after each of those three outings. The outside linebacker totaled more than 1.0 sack in seven of his 12 appearances this year, peaking at 3.5 on Oct. 14 against UAB.

In 2022 as a redshirt freshman, Moore totaled 8.0 sacks and 18.0 tackles for loss to warrant honorable mention honors on the All-CUSA team. Currently holding redshirt sophomore status, Moore retains two more years of eligibility.

Although unlikely with many transfers, Moore has not clarified if he will play in UTSA’s upcoming Dec. 19 Frisco Bowl against Marshall, as the Roadrunners seek their first-ever bowl victory.

Moore’s transfer destination is unknown at the time.
