Is Ethan Vasko Coastal Carolina’s New QB1?

Redshirt freshman and Kansas transfer had one of the better QB performances of Bowl Season, leading Coastal Carolina to a win in this past weekend’s Hawaii Bowl over San José State.

Vasko was named the game’s MVP after throwing for 199 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Vasko completed 20 passes on 33 attempts while also rushing for a team-high 50 yards on 17 carries.

Vasko’s performance should give Chanticleer fans some sense of relief heading into 2024. After both Grayson McCall (NC State) and Jarrett Guest (undecided) left in the transfer portal, Vasko is the most senior returning member of CCU’s QB room.

The most likely challenger to Vasko is Michigan State transfer Noah Kim: an incoming redshirt senior who played in eight games over the past two seasons with the Spartans. Here’s how they stack up against each other.

Completions: 79 on 127 attempts

Building on the momentum of Tim Beck’s first season as the head coach of the Chanticleers, Coastal Carolina will still have several months to make the decision.

Who knows? Another veteran transfer could also still fall into their lap. However, it has to help Beck and the coaching staff to have a strong example of Vasko running the offense successfully.
