The last head coaching vacancy in FBS for 2023 has officially been filled.
The Troy Trojans announced on Monday the hiring of former Notre Dame offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Gerad Parker as the program’s new leader. Parker replaces Jon Sumrall, who left to replace Willie Fritz at Tulane. Fritz is now the head coach at Houston.
“Gerad Parker is a proven winner with an infectious personality and passion for success who has significant experience at some of the best programs in America,” Troy Athletic Director Brent Jones said in a statement released by the university on Monday.
Parker is a former Kentucky teammate of Sumrall’s. Parker also has experience as the offensive coordinator of West Virginia, in addition to assistant experience at Purdue, Duke, and Penn State. He was Purdue’s interim head coach for six games in 2016, where he went 0-6.
Parker is expected to address local media in a press conference at 2 PM ET at Troy on Tuesday afternoon.
