Outlook
The Chattanooga Mocs play their one and only game of the fall this weekend against a struggling Western Kentucky team. It’s been nearly a year since they played a game. The Mocs are not an amazing team within the FCS, going 6-6 last season and losing three of their last five.
Tyson Helton doesn’t seem concerned about preparing for a team that hasn’t played in so long. In his weekly presser, Helton said “It’s more about us. It’s more about us doing the right things and more about us executing what we need to do.” Helton also pointed out that his team more or less spotted UAB 24 points in their last game due to penalties and turnovers.
What the Tops need to do is score points. WKU have only scored 93 points on the season, which is the lowest total out of C-USA teams that have played at least four games. WKU are also averaging 27 minutes and 35 seconds of possession per game, which is one of the lower averages in the league. A banged up offensive line doesn’t help this issue.
Kevaris Thomas will take the reins at quarterback once again this week looking for some redemption following his most recent performance. Helton seems confident his inexperienced signal caller can get the job done, but will need to significantly cut back on his mistakes.
Prediction
Even with the issues that Western Kentucky seem to be dealing with right now, it doesn’t seem likely that they would lose to an FCS team that’s facing a live opponent for the first time this season. Western Kentucky win this one 27-14.
