Georgia State: 1-0
Sadly, Georgia State at Tennessee did not make our Top 5 games list last week for predictions.
I think it’s fair to assume everyone knew the Panthers would hammer the Vols, so we’ll just cal it a win for everyone, right?
A tidy 3-2 for both of us to open the season, including a near-perfect-score prediction on the Mississippi State-Louisiana tilt.
Read ‘em and weep (or comment blasting our lack of knowledge/integrity/etc.)..
Charlotte at Appalachian State (Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EST)
Josh: Appalachian State 41, Charlotte 17. See Darrynton. See Darrynton run. See Darrynton Evans run for 200-plus yards over the 49er defense to assert themselves.
Aikman: App State 38, Charlotte 14. App state treated ETSU like a preseason NFL game and they won’t do that this week against Charlotte...at least until the 4th quarter anyways.
ULM at Florida State (Saturday at 5 p.m. EST)
Josh: ULM 34, Florida State 33. You read this right. The Seminoles downward spiral continues as the Warhawks score early behind Caleb Evans and hold on for the upset.
Aikman: Florida State 38, ULM 24. ULM will put a scare early in FSU, but this is a team that showed athletic potential against Boise State last week. Just so happens Boise might have the best true freshman QB in football. ULM doesn't. Go Warhawks! But I’m picking FSU.
Coastal Carolina at Kansas (Saturday at 7 p.m. EST)
Josh: Kansas 26, Coastal Carolina 20. The Jayhawks barely survive a last-minute Fred Payton drive for a second straight nail-biter-of-a-win.
Aikman: Kansas 24, Coastal 21. Coastal leads early but in Coastal Carolina fashion, they give up the lead and Kansas walks off with a field goal at the buzzer.
Furman at Georgia State (Saturday at 7 p.m. EST)
Josh: Georgia State 34, Furman 23. Shawn Elliott’s crew better not let the hangover of a magical win over Tennessee linger long. Panthers keep it rolling.
Aikman: Georgia State 28, Furman 24. Hangover watch will be strong in this game. How will the Panthers come out after last week’s win over UT? The line is 7.5 for a reason. I like Furman + the points but GSU to take the W.
Arkansas State at UNLV (Saturday at 10 p.m. EST)
Josh: Arkansas State 31, UNLV 26. stAte runs the ball more effectively, while the defense begins getting better getting off the field on third down.
Aikman: Arkansas State 39, UNLV 24. Arkansas State let one get away last week, but at UNLV is a contest where the Red Wolves can pick up the W. Make Rodgers throw instead of run and the Rebels will be brought to a halt.
