Choosing C-USA: Week 2

Time to pick this week’s winners after a decent start to the season.

Welcome to week two of Choosing C-USA. If you’re just joining us, this is where we pick the winners of each C-USA game this week. If I do say so myself, I didn’t do too badly last week. Let’s see if I can have an equally successful week this week.

Last Week: 12-2

Season Total: 12-2

Friday, September 6th

Rice Owls vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons - 8 PM ET

I give Rice full credit for putting up a much bigger fight against Army than I thought they would last week. Wake Forest is bit more of a dynamic offense, however, so the Demon Deacons should take this one.

Boise State Broncos vs Marshall Thundering Herd - 9 PM ET

This could end up being the game of the weekend. I’m picking Boise State because they have a bit more experience in these types of games and they’re playing at home amongst the potatoes.

Saturday, September 7th

UAB Blazers vs Akron Zips - Noon ET

I’m picking the Blazers because I believe Bill Clark will whip his offense into shape after a so-so performance against Alabama State last week alongside a defense that’s looking pretty solid.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Old Dominion Monarchs - Noon ET

After watching Old Dominion barely get it done against Norfolk State, I’m not thinking they get another huge win against the Hokies. Virginia Tech takes this one.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs Grambling Tigers - 3:30 PM ET

The Bulldogs get the tune-up game that didn’t come last week and J’Mar Smith and the Techsters should run away with this one.

Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles - 3:30 PM ET

Southern Miss should give their in-state foe a good fight, but Mississippi State is simply the safer pick here.

Appalachian State Mountaineers vs Charlotte 49ers - 3:30 PM ET

App State’s experience in games like this should lift them over the 49ers.

Baylor Bears vs UTSA Roadrunners - 4 PM ET

Baylor should take this. If UTSA can stay competitive throughout, that will be some good momentum for them to take into the next week.

Florida Atlantic Owls vs #18 UCF Knights - 7 PM ET

UCF’s offense is just better than FAU’s defense, and that’s why I think the Knights will win. After seeing the late surge they turned in against Ohio State last week, however, expect FAU to keep it close.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs Tennessee State Tigers - 7 PM ET

Asher O’Hara looked very solid in a week one loss to Michigan. His Raiders should win fairly easily in their home opener against the in-state FCS opponent.

SMU Mustangs vs North Texas Mean Green - 7 PM ET

In a battle of two decent offenses, North Texas should take this one. Expect a lot of points to be scored.

FIU Panthers vs Western Kentucky Hilltoppers - 7 PM ET

After FIU’s performance in week one, it’s hard to imagine Butch Davis doesn’t have his team ready to play this week. Plus, James Morgan is a great passer and WKU’s secondary needs work. Panthers win.

Texas Tech Red Raiders vs UTEP Miners - 8 PM ET

Texas Tech wins this one. UTEP squeaked by an FCS team last week, but they’re not going to replicate that result against this Red Raider offense.
