UCF is still the only G5 team to crack SB Nation’s FanPulse Poll

Week 1 is in the books and despite some wins over quality Power Five programs, the Group of Five is still not getting the love it deserves in the latest SB Nation FanPulse Poll.

The UCF Knights are still the only P6 - excuse me, I meant G5 - team to make the list, remaining at No. 16 in the rankings. In comparison to the nationally recognized polls, UCF remained at No. 17 in the Coaches Poll, and inexcusably dropped one spot in the AP Top 25 to No. 18.

Impressive wins by Boise State, Cincinnati and Memphis over P5 opponents weren’t enough to crack the FanPulse Poll. The aforementioned teams were, however, just outside of the rankings as they received votes from our SB Nation College Football communities.

Boise State not cracking the FanPulse Top 25 is the biggest miss by the voters. The Broncos are ranked 24th in both the AP and Coaches Poll, and were named the top G5 team in our first Underdog Top 10, where we rank the top Group of Five programs. It’s even more shocking that the Florida State community didn’t place Boise State in their Top 25 despite the outcome this past week.

The Memphis Tigers are the lone team outside the P5 that is favored in every game the rest of the season, but if a win over Ole Miss couldn’t catapult them into the rankings, it’s hard to imagine them entering the discussion until they get to conference play. Wins over Southern University and South Alabama in the next two weeks likely aren’t going to move the needle in their favor.

Cincinnati and Army can crack the poll with huge upsets over Big Ten opponents ranked in the Top 10. The Bearcats travel to nearby Columbus to take on Ohio State, while the Black Knights visit Michigan.
