Standings
Aikman: 14-6
Josh: 14-6
The Second Season is (mostly) here!
Not to be confused with the “playoffs”. This is the FBS, after all.
Sun Belt Conference play kicks into high gear after a small taste (and what a taste it was!) from Texas State and Georgia State.
Only five Sun Belt games, so making a decision on which ones to choose is becoming much easier.
Away we go…
Coastal Carolina at Appalachian State (Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EST)
Josh: App St. 37, Coastal Carolina 18- The Chanticleers have shown some aptitude on offense, but they haven’t faced as fierce a front as there is down in Boone.
Aikman: App State 38, Coastal 21- App State pulled off the biggest win in program history last week against UNC and looks to roll on in front of a sell out crowd against Coastal in Boone this weekend. App may come out flat early but look for them to pull away in the 2nd half.
Arkansas State at Troy (Saturday at 6 p.m. EST)
Josh: Troy 31, Arkansas State 27- Losing current Sun Belt passing leader Logan Bonner for the season is a big blow to the Red Wolves offense. I think Alabama transfer Layne Hatcher will be fine under center in the long run, but Trojans jump on early jitters.
Aikman: Troy 35, A-State 31- Expect points to be scored in bunches in a shootout so if you bet take the over!
Louisiana at Georgia Southern (Saturday at 6 p.m. EST)
Josh: Louisiana 34, Georgia Southern 16- America’s best ground game keeps pounding along. Low halftime score becomes a wear-down in the second half.
Aikman: UL 27, Georgia Southern 20- Southern will hang tough and show they are one of the better teams in the Sun Belt but Levi Lewis makes a big play late to seal a Cajun W in the Boro.
Nicholls State at Texas State (Saturday at 7 p.m. EST)
Josh: Texas State 30, Nicholls State 24- Your first place Bobcats take a break from undefeated conference play to get a scare put into them. This might be the first “trap game” for Texas State in years.
Aikman: Tx St 37, Nicholls 21- The Bobcats finally put together a decent game in the win last week over Dan Ellington State (Sorry: Georgia State) and ride the momentum into a win over the FCS foe.
South Alabama at ULM (Saturday at 7 p.m. EST)
Josh: ULM 33, South Alabama 20- After allowing 72 points to the Cyclones, expect the defense to come out playing with extra purpose. Warhawks big early and coast from there.
Aikman: ULM 42, USA 17- South Alabama has issue, Serious Issues and this is the perfect game for the WarHawks to get their heads right after getting tore up by Purdy a week ago.
