How is it week four already?? Anyways, welcome back to Choosing C-USA. Last week threw a couple more surprises at us than normal, but we’re still sitting pretty on the overall pick ratio. This week, we’ve actually got some conference games on the schedule. Excitement! That does mean picking the games is going to get a bit trickier, however. Let’s see how we do.
Last week: 8-3
Season total: 31-7
Friday, September 20th
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs FIU Panthers - 8 PM ET
Earlier in the year, I would have told you that this feels like a pretty easy win for FIU. However, the Panthers are struggling to start the year and their starting quarterback James Morgan could be missing some significant time. The Bulldogs are the safe pick here.
Saturday, September 21st
#2 Alabama Crimson Tide vs Southern Miss Golden Eagles - Noon ET
There’s not much to say here other than save that money you put aside to bet on the upset of the century for another day. Bama has this one locked down.
UAB Blazers vs South Alabama Jaguars - 3:30 PM ET
The 2-0 Blazers are doing a lot of things right, but when is that running game REALLY going to open up? It could be this week against South Alabama who didn’t look all that intimidating last week in a 42-6 loss to Memphis where they gave up 312 yards on the ground. Blazers should win this one.
Florida Atlantic Owls vs Wagner Seahawks - 6 PM ET
FAU looked like they turned a corner of sorts last week with a win against the Ball State Cardinals. By all accounts, the Owls should get a win at home against an 0-3 FCS team.
#21 Virginia Cavaliers vs Old Dominion Monarchs - 7 PM ET
Old Dominion’s offense are not putting up the kind of points that they would need to keep up with an ACC foe like Virginia, who have scored at least 30 points in each of their three wins to start the year. Cavaliers will win.
Rice Owls vs Baylor Bears - 7 PM ET
The injuries just keep piling up for Rice and the Baylor offense is in pretty good shape at the moment. Baylor is the pick as Rice are still trying to find their footing as a program under Mike Bloomgren.
#1 Clemson Tigers vs Charlotte 49ers - 7:30 PM ET
Like Southern Miss, Charlotte are likely in for a long day against the defending champions. Clemson wins this one.
North Texas Mean Green vs UTSA Roadrunners - 7:30 PM ET
North Texas is having some little issues of their own, but their offense is still on another level when compared to the struggling Roadrunners. Expect the Mean Green to get the win at home and start conference play 1-0.
UTEP Miners vs Nevada Wolfpack - 8 PM ET
Nevada have been a mixed bunch to start the year, but there’s no reason to think that they will let their guard down against a UTEP team that remain one of the worst teams in division one at the moment. Nevada is the pick.
