Last Week
Aikman: 4-1
Josh: 3-2
Standings
Aikman: 7-3
Josh: 6-4
SEC teams from Tennessee: 0-4
Big, big weekend by the Sun Belt for a 7-2 record.
And one of those losses was a painful extra point away from 8-1.
Sigh.
That puts the Sun Belt at a very respectable 11-8 on the young season with a couple more non-conference-heavy weeks to play.
Aikman takes the lead by a game in large thanks to that overtime miss. This weekend has perhaps the most intriguing set of games to consider...
Arkansas State at Georgia (Saturday at 12 p.m. EST)
Josh: Georgia 45, stAte 20- Too much talent to make any bold claims here. Arkansas State will move the ball a bit, though.
Aikman: UGA 44, Ark St 14- As much as I would love to see the Red Wolves pull this upset I just don't see it happening between the hedges.
Memphis at South Alabama (Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EST)
Josh: Memphis 38, USA 13- Memphis will look to make this contest a track meet. No Patrick Taylor Jr. will hurt, but Tigers give solid defensive effort.
Aikman: Memphis 47, USA 17- Memphis struggled with Southern early last week after the win over Ole Miss in week 1 but I don’t see them having much trouble here.
Georgia Southern at Minnesota (Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EST)
Josh: Minnesota 29, Georgia Southern 22- Will it be Shai Werts or Justin Tomlin? Either way, Eagles defense keeps it close.
Aikman: Minnesota 31, Georgia Southern 14- Georgia Southern has had issues in weird ways this year like snapping the ball effectively and they did not have the smoothest of times with Maine last week.
Southern Miss at Troy (Saturday at 6 p.m. EST)
Josh: Troy 41, Southern Miss 23- A fresh Trojan squad will be ready for Southern Miss. Not sure if it will rain or shine. but expect lots and lots of BJ Smith in the forecast.
Aikman: Troy 28, USM 17- Troy is Troy until proven otherwise and I’m not sold on USM going into Troy and beating the Trojans since they have had an extra week to prepare.
Georgia State at Western Michigan (Saturday at 7 p.m. EST)
Josh: Georgia State 33, Western Michigan 28- The dream lives on. Dan Ellington is playing with confidence and the Panthers will continue to ride this wave into Sun Belt season.
Aikman: WM 47, GSU 41- The OVER is the play. If Dan Ellington can play lights out again GSU can win but 1 man can only carry a team so far.
