It’s August, folks, a month marked by three things: oppressive heat, annual anguish over the demise of the NCAA football video game series, and delusional optimism for your college football rooting interest.
Whether you’re a North Texas fan looking forward to Mason Fine’s last season in Denton, or a UConn fan looking for a speeding bus to step in front of, the 2019 season is set to be a huge year for the G5.
It’s also going to be a huge year for Underdog Dynasty! This month kicks off our fifth year of operation and it’s been mind blowing to watch this community grow in that time span. While we’re proud of our success, we’ve got even bigger plans to continue to grow in 2019 and beyond.
You can expect a few changes, both big and small, around these parts this season.
First off, we’re happy to announce we’ve promoted Josh Farnsworth to Sun Belt editor. This is a role we’ve been trying to fill for two years, so we’re thrilled to have Josh kicking our #FunBelt coverage up several notches. Expect more Sun Belt coverage across the board.
Secondly, you’ll be noticing an uptick in our sports betting coverage. Our gambling columns have always been some of our most well received content, and the spreading legalization of sports betting is accelerating this demand even further. Each Sunday we’ll be running an early “lines of the week” column as lines are released in Vegas. We’ll also have running analysis of how teams are performing against the spread, and against their win totals. Let us know what other types of gambling coverage you’d like to see and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
Lastly, keep your eyes on our Fanposts/Fanshots section this year. With the ashes of Every Day Should be Saturday sadly being released to the sea, we want to make sure the SB Nation commentariat has a friendly and familiar place to Talk ‘Bout the ‘Noles after they lose to ULM in week 2.
Please feel free to use our Fan Posts section for discussion threads, we just ask you all to please keep it clean, be welcoming to newcomers, and try to keep initial discussion topics at least tangentially related to football to encourage participation from our entire community. Our goal is to hit that perfect balance between serious football coverage and fun, off-the-wall shenanigans.
Our site has become more and more community driven over time, and we’re looking forward to seeing that evolution continue as new faces join our ranks. We’re always open to new ideas and want to make Underdog Dynasty an inclusive home for fans of all G5 programs and fans of the sport in general.
If you have any feedback for us as far as content you would like to see us tackle this season, please drop us a line in the comments section.
Here’s to another season full of Big Red memes and P5 upsets!
