Coastal Carolina and Texas State met for one last game in 2019 and the Chants came away with a three point victory.
CJ Marable capped off his 1000+ yard campaign with a 121 yard performance for the Chants becoming only the fourth thousand-yard rusher in school history.
After a scoreless first quarter produced just a missed field goal by both teams, Coastal lit up the board first Shadell Bell caught a one yard touchdown from Fred Payton to take an early lead.
Moments later Bobcat quarterback Tyler Vitt connected from 64 yards out to Mason Hays to tie up the game.
Before that play Texas State had only mustered 84 yards of total offense.
Scoring wouldn’t commence until three and a half minutes left in the half when backup quarterback Bryce Carpenter hit receiver Isaiah Likely from 28 yards to end the deadlock.
Massimo Biscardo hit a 47 field goal early in the fourth to give Coastal a 17-7 lead.
Texas State then pulled out all the stops and enacted the “Philly Special” when do-everything receiver Hutch White hit quarterback Tyler Vitt from 8 yards out to cut the lead to three.
Texas State’s run defense started to run down and the Chants were able to run at will. This led to a three yard run from Marable to retake a 10 point lead.
With one last desparate rally the ‘Cats cut the lead to three when Jacoby Hopkins scored with an 18 yard reception.
The subsequent onside kick failed and the Chants escaped with a win.
Coastal Carolina finishes 5-7 (2-6 Sun Belt) while Texas State ends up at 3-8 (2-6 Sun Belt)
