It was a one-sided dominant affair Saturday evening in Lafayette, Louisiana.
The Ragin’ Cajuns (6-2, 3-1 Sun Belt) continued to stay on a roll in a conference matchup that gave them sole possession of the Sun Belt West.
The first half started off as a defensively dominated contest.
It wasn’t until the eighth drive of the game that Louisiana running back Elijah Mitchell ran for a 39 yard touchdown to break the scoring drought in the second.
The Bobcats responded with a Joshua Rowland 33 yard field goal to make it 7-3.
Cajun kicker Stevie Artigue nailed a 46 yard field goal as the first half came to an end and for Texas State (2-6, 1-3 Sun Belt) their scoring also came to an end.
Louisiana scored three more touchdowns in the third to cap of the evening as the Bobcats’ only drives over 40 yards ended in interceptions.
Cajun quarterback Levi Lewis was an efficient 13/21 for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Running backs Elijah Mitchell ran for 126 and a touchdown and Raymond Calais had 83 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown on a 34 yard reception.
For the Bobcats Tyler Vitt went 24/34 206 yards and a couple of picks. Vitt also led the team in rushing with 38 yards as the running back Corp of Caleb Twyford, Anthony D. Taylor and Robert Brown Jr. only combined for 20 yards rushing.
For the Bobcat defense Bryan London was his usual self tallying another double digit tackling performance leading the ‘Cats with 13 stops.
Next up for Louisiana is another prime time game as they travel to Coastal Carolina Thursday night. For Texas State it’s homecoming week as they will look for a much needed win in hosting the 1-7 South Alabama Jaguars.
