We continue to fire away more winners here at Underdogs Against the Spread.
Things got off to a terrific start as not only did the Rutgers cover the spread, but won outright over Liberty. The Scarlet Knights have been lousy in the Big Ten, but to be a touchdown underdog at home against the new team in the FBS made no sense.
Miami Ohio lived up to their recent history inside the Mid-American Conference as they are now 10-2 ATS in their last 12 conference games. That gave us a 2-0 start in the early slate of games.
North Texas was the one that hurt. The Mean Green lead a touchdown for much of the game until a Charlotte field goal made it a two-point game late in the fourth. North Texas responded to get us back on the winning side with 51-yard field goal with a minute and 12 seconds to go. The only way we can lose now is on a 49ers touchdown in that short time frame. But sure enough, Charlotte scored with 18 seconds remaining
Memphis and Utah State were our other two picks last week. The Tigers almost blew their chance at hosting College Gameday this week when Tulsa missed a game-winning field goal. The Aggies were blown out at Air Force which was shocking considering how both teams looked heading into last week.
The last few weeks it has been difficult to come up with five picks in the G5 that seem worthy. That’s not the case in Week 10 as there were a bunch of games that were interesting, but I narrowed it down to five.
Last Week: 2-3
2019 Record: 25-18-2

Houston Cougars vs. UCF Knights (Over 71)
UCF just put up 63 points on Temple, one of the better defensive units in the nation. Houston’s defense is nowhere close to the same level as the Owls. The Coogs aren’t the same offensive juggernaut that they were with D’Eriq King, but they are still averaging 31 points since his decision to redshirt. These two teams will have no problem hitting the total.
UAB Blazers (+13) vs. Tennessee Volunteers
We rarely get G5 vs. P5 matchups this late in the season. Tennessee has been a team to pick on as they already have losses to Georgia State and a pesky BYU team we will touch on in a bit. While the competition hasn’t been near the same, the Blazers are putting up points in bunches while playing great defense as well.
Tulsa Golden Hurricane (+10.5) vs. Tulane Green Wave
The Golden Hurricane are much better than their record indicates. They kept it close against Oklahoma State, took SMU to triple overtime and should have beat Memphis last week if not for a missed 29-yard field goal in the finals seconds. I like their chances to keep this one within one score.
SMU Mustangs (+6) vs. Memphis Tigers
This number shocks me a bit as I was expecting Memphis to be the home favorite, but somewhere in between 1-3 points. SMU does not have a Kenneth Gainwell on their roster, but they have been the more impressive team early on. I strongly considered going with my first ever money line pick on UATS, but let’s not get too greedy.
BYU Cougars vs. Utah State Aggies (-3)
These are two programs that haven’t been too nice to us as of late. Utah State was embarrassed last week and in the loss to LSU early this year as well. BYU has burned us twice this year in the loss to USF, but defeating Boise State the following week. BYU has been tough to figure out this season, but they’ve struggled on the road. Utah State is 3-0 this season at home. Give me Utah State one more time this season or we are done with them.
