First Reaction To G5 Week 7 Matchups ATS

A quick preview on a few important games ATS in week seven.

NCAA Football: Mississippi State at UL Lafayette Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Week 7 kicks off on Wednesday with a big game in the Sun Belt between App State and ULL. Both teams are playing great football, and this could be a preview to the Sun Belt title game in December. We are in the thick of conference play, and the top programs are starting to separate from the pack. Here are my thoughts on the top matchups ATS.

Appalachian State at ULL

Spread: ULL - 2

Both teams are coming off a bye and will be well rested for possibly the most important game on the Sun Belt schedule. App State is 4-0 and ULL is 3-1 with their only loss to Mississippi State. Both teams love to run the ball, and they have two of the top rushing offenses in the country. The Ragin’ Cajuns average 314 yards a game which is number one in the nation. At this point in the season, ULL has a slightly better defense statistically, and with the game being played in Lafayette, I’m leaning towards the home team. This will be a great game Wednesday night in front of a national audience.

ULL slight lean in this matchup

Navy at Tulsa

Total Points: 51.5

Navy is in the top ten in the country in time of possession, and they are second in the country in rushing yards per game. The Midshipmen are coming off a huge win over Air Force which was their best win of the season. Tulsa is a team that wants to run the ball, and play sound fundamental defense. Don’t let the final score of last week’s game against SMU fool you, the Golden Hurricane has a talented defense. They gave up 43 points to the Mustangs, but the game went to triple overtime and SMU had nine points heading to the fourth quarter. Tulsa is 4-1 to the under and Navy is 2-2 to the under. Look for this game to go under 51.5 points.

Under 51.5 points is the play

Georgia State at Coastal Carolina

Total Points: 68

Georgia State won a shootout over Arkansas State by the score of 52-38 in a game that flew over the total of 68.5 points. Dan Ellington threw for 382 yards and a touchdown in the win. The Panthers average 36 points per game, and they give up nearly 41 points a game. Coastal Carolina averages over 200 yards a game rushing, and they have averaged 48 points over their past three games. The Chanticleers have one of the top backs in the Sun Belt in CJ Marable who has 493 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. Georgia State has played some exciting football games this year and I think that trend continues.

I like over 68 points in this game

Charlotte at FIU

Total Points: 60

With the exception of the Clemson game, the Charlotte offense is averaging 42 points per game and they rush for 219 yards per game which is 28th in the nation. 49ers running back Benny LeMay has 478 yards and four touchdowns already this season, and quarterback Chris Reynolds has 10 touchdowns and only five interceptions. FIU has struggled this season, but quarterback James Morgan is healthy again and the Panthers are starting to look more like the team most expected to see this season. Over the past two games with Morgan under center, they have scored 71 points including 44 against UMass. I think both teams score in the 30’s and this game goes over the total.

I lean over the total of 60 points in this matchup
