Choosing C-USA: Week 6

Time to make the picks for the week of six.

NCAA Football: Texas El Paso at Texas Tech Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

So last week threw a few surprises at us. Things have certainly been weirder in this league. Both divisions are still wide open and anything can happen. This week could be just as surprising. Weird, wild stuff...Does anyone younger than 30 even get that reference?

Anyways, let’s pick some football games.

Last week: 5-3

Season total: 45-10

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs Marshall Thundering Herd - 3:30 PM ET

Marshall is the pick. This could be a fun battle between two young QBs in Isaiah Green and Asher O’Hara. MTSU are out of the brutal part of their schedule, but they could still be a little shell shocked from the 48-3 beatdown they went through at Iowa last weekend. Marshall’s defense needs to step up, but this should be a solid road victory for them.

Old Dominion Monarchs vs Western Kentucky Hilltoppers - 6 PM ET

You have to go with the Hilltoppers. WKU’s defensive line has been one of the most entertaining units in C-USA so far and Ty Storey seems like the starting QB role is going to fit him nicely. The Tops gave Tyler Johnston fits last week and should have an even bigger week this week against Stone Smartt.

UAB Blazers vs Rice Owls - 7 PM ET

UAB are the safe pick. Rice may keep this closer than Bill Clark would like though. If UAB can take away Rice’s run game and get their own going, they won’t have much to worry about.

FIU Panthers vs UMass Minutemen - 7 PM ET

FIU should be a lock. FIU are 1-3, which most of us didn’t expect. UMass are 1-4 though and have continually shown to be one of the worst teams in college football. If FIU lose this game, we’ll know they’re really in trouble.

UTEP Miners vs UTSA Roadrunners - 8 PM ET

The gut pick is UTSA. UTEP are improving, but they’re not quite there. UTSA have looked decent in flashes, but the offense is still a major cause for concern if you’re Frank Wilson or a Roadrunners fan. I’d be more confident if their QB Frank Harris wasn’t out indefinitely, but Lowell Narcisse should have what it takes to get it done.
