We continue to pick more winners here at Underdogs Against the Spread.
It was a 4-0 start to Week 8 as BYU’s upset over Boise State was our only loss in the late night window of games. Navy had no problems against USF, San Diego State did their part in the second half, and our two totals went over the total for another 4-1 mark this season.
That pushes the record to eight games over .500 and its the third time this season we’ve only had one loss in our weekly picks. Let’s keep the momentum going.
Week 9 is a rough slate of games, but as always, there are winners out there. Here are this week’s winning picks.
Last Week: 4-1
2019 Record: 23-15-2
*All lines are according to Bovada and are accurate at the time this article is published
Liberty Flames vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights (+7.5)
We know Rutgers is one of the worst teams in the country and they have been REALLY bad the last couple of weeks. We expect them to take their punches against Big Ten opponents. Liberty does score points, but somehow, some way, Rutgers keeps this one tight.
Miami-Ohio RedHawks (+2) vs. Kent State Golden Flashes
Both teams have matching records, but Kent State’s wins have come against a FCS team, Akron and Bowling Green. Meanwhile, the RedHawks are 18-7 in their last 25 MAC games, including 9-2 ATS in the past 11 conference games. First place in the MAC East is on the line and I’ll take the team with the better resume as a small underdog.
North Texas Mean Green (-4) vs. Charlotte 49ers
While North Texas is not as efficient as we expected entering the season, they are clearly the more explosive team on offense. Neither plays great defense, and the key factor for us is that the 49ers are 1-5 ATS in their last six conference games.
Memphis Tigers (-10.5) vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane
These are two teams on the opposite spectrum in the AAC West. Memphis is flying high after Brady White, Kenneth Gainwell and company just set career highs, while Tulsa quarterback Zach Smith is coming off a five-turnover game. Memphis should win this game by at least two touchdowns.
Utah State Aggies (+3.5) vs. Air Force Falcons
I’ve said this numerous times already this season: the Aggies are a terrific road underdog. They did get embarrassed by LSU, but the Tigers are doing it to everyone. The Falcons are 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 conference games, and quarterback Donald Hammond is banged up. The Aggies win this game outright.
