P6 Pick’em Week 9: UCF and Temple face elimination

Owls and Knights both need a win, but only one will prevail.

NCAA Football: East Carolina at Central Florida Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

You could argue there’s not a bigger week for UCF than this one. A potential elimination game is on the horizon this weekend, and the Knights road to a third consecutive conference championship is in jeopardy. Temple’s pulled off a couple upsets, but they also find their road to the championship up in the air. The winner keeps their hopes alive, but still needs help. The loser will be watching the championship game at home.

Lock (1 point): You pick anyone you want (within the AAC games). Even if it’s a non-conference game, you can pick the opposing team. This is a pick you’re extremely confident in, and likely won’t lose.

Blowout (2 points): This is just AAC teams. You will pick which AAC team will win by the most points. It’ll most likely be a blowout, but even if that team only wins by 10, it counts in this category.

Upset (3 points): We’re counting this as any team that’s not favored. It could be their +1 or +35, doesn’t matter. You’re picking a team that’s not the favorite to win that particular game, not cover the spread.

Use ‘Em and Lose ‘Em (4 points): There are 12 teams in the AAC. You get to pick one team per week, and then you cannot pick them again. So, if you pick UCF, you lose them. Your list of teams to pick from will obviously decrease as the season progresses.

**NOTE: ALL GAMES PICKED ARE AAC GAMES ONLY

FOR OUR FANS/READERS: All of your picks are decided by a vote. The option in each category with the most votes will be your selection each week.

**Any picks left unanswered will result in forefeits

Lock

Mike: Not much in the way of a lock this week but Memphis over Tulsa is the closest one.

Joe B: Memphis and Kenneth Gainwell shouldn’t find much trouble against Tulsa, so give me the Tigers this week.

Joe S: Memphis should be able to repeat last week’s success against Tulsa this week.

Eric: Definitely taking Memphis here to get the win over Tulsa.

Blowout

Mike: I think Houston is in a tailspin so give me SMU to pull away in the second half.

Joe B: I don’t love any of the picks this week, but I’ll stick with Memphis for this category too.

Joe S: A short week is not going to fix Houston’s issues with Shane Buechele upcoming. SMU wins this one easily.

Eric: I’d love to take UCONN here because UMass is in the midst of a major rebuild. But I’ll play it safe and take Memphis.

Upset

Mike: Tempted to pick Tulane over Navy but not after what I saw from the Green Wave’s defense last week. Give me ECU over USF.

Joe B: ECU’s a sneaky potential upset, but I’m going with Tulane to bounce back this week and upset Navy.

Joe S: Both teams have been major disappointments, but give me ECU, a home underdog, against a USF team that just got ran over by Navy.

Eric: I’m really torn here. I think the Knights are susceptible to being upset, especially on the road and now down a starter on the offensive line. But I’ll take Tulane, because I’m expecting them to bounce back.

Use ‘Em and Lose ‘Em

Mike: I think the Mustangs keep rolling, give me SMU.

Joe B: SMU’s on a roll, and that doesn’t appear to be ending this week against Houston.

Joe S: Memphis is my lock so there is no reason not to use them here as well.

Eric: This looks like a completely different SMU team than we’ve seen in recent memory. So Pony Up.
