Buffalo Bulls Outlook

Quarterback Tyree Jackson threw a career-high six touchdowns in the Bulls 48-10 win over Delaware State in Week 1. He threw five first-half touchdowns and was pulled after throwing his sixth on the opening drive of the second half. Buffalo led the MAC in passing yards last season and with a healthy Jackson under center, there is no reason to believe they won’t do so again. Joining him in the backfield is junior running back Emmanuel Reed, who rushed for over a 100 yards in five games last year. Anthony Johnson, the Bulls’ leading receiver from a year ago, led the team in receptions in yards against Delaware State.

The Bulls defense is headlined by Khalil Hodge, who leads the nation in tackles over the last two seasons. The Bednarik, Butkus and Nagurski award finalist helped Buffalo to force four turnovers in Week 1 after racking up just 14 all of last season and 13 the year prior. Defensive end Chuck Harris and cornerback Cameron Lewis are other players to keep an eye on on defense.

Temple Owls Outlook

Losing to Villanova was a shock to many in the college football community. Anytime a FCS team gets a win over a FBS opponent, it’s going to garner national attention. But Villanova isn’t your average FCS program. They’ve been one of the better teams in FCS for the past decade, if not more.

It’s how the Owls lost that has many asking questions. They were dominated on both sides of the ball, with the only score coming on a blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown. Other than that, Frank Nutile and company could not get nothing going, while the Wildcats had their way on offense. Nova continued to come up with the big plays, while Temple looked a lot like the team that started last season: unable to get the ground game going and make key stops on defense.

It’s hard to make a pick here considering what we saw last week from Temple. Buffalo is a team featured in our best over/under win totals because of Jackson and most of the pieces around him returning. This game really is a toss up, but I’ll go with Temple as they have something to prove after last week’s disappointing effort. I’m giving the Owls a field goal edge in the home game.
