Both players, according to reports were visiting friends when the shooting occurred. The shooting appears to be random and local police are in search of the perpetrators.
Both Jones and Miller are Miami natives and suffered non life-threatening injuries. Jones is a starting running back for the Panthers and missed all of 2017 with a knee injury. In his return to the field over the weekend, he scored two touchdowns and rushed for 88 yards in FIU's 38-28 loss against Indiana.
Miller redshirted in 2017 and made his collegiate debut last weekend at offensive tackle. Both players attended local football powerhouse Miami Central High School.
This weekend, FIU will head to Norfolk, Virginia, and take on Old Dominion to begin conference play. FIU is sure to play with a heavy heart knowing that their injured teammates will be back home recovering.
