We’ve wrapped up another week of college football and we saw several upsets come from members of the Group of Five. That’s led to a shakeup in our Underdog Top 10, but the top two still remain the same.
Underdog Top 10 - Week 2
Rank | Team | Points | Conference |
---|---|---|---|
Rank | Team | Points | Conference |
1 | Boise State | 129 (12) | Mountain West |
2 | UCF | 116 (1) | American |
T-3 | Hawaii | 92 | Mountain West |
T-3 | Houston | 92 | American |
5 | App State | 58 | Sun Belt |
6 | USF | 54 | American |
7 | Cincinnati | 46 | American |
8 | North Texas | 31 | Conference USA |
9 | Fresno State | 27 | Mountain West |
10 | Toledo | 22 | Mid-American |
Boise State took all but one first-place votes from our panel of voters. They’ve dismantled both opponents so far this season, and we’ll see just how well they represent the G5 when they take on Oklahoma State this Saturday.
We have a tie between Houston and Hawaii for third place with 92 points, but one voter had Houston as low as 10 in their rankings. I feel Houston was deserving of the third spot alone after the win over Arizona.
Speaking of wins over P5 opponents, USF jumped up four spots with their win over Georgia Tech, while Eastern Michigan did garner three votes following their upset over Purdue.
Memphis was the biggest loser in our rankings, falling from fourth last week to failing to record a single vote after Week 2. That’s a bit too harsh following a loss to a Navy program that always gives opponents a hard time.
The Mountain West and American Athletic Conferences are way out in front of the rest of the Group of Five with seven of the teams.
