According to 247, SMU currently has the top recruiting class in the AAC and the 42nd best recruiting class in the nation. Right now the Mustangs have 13 three-star recruits committed. The class consists of players from Texas and Louisiana.
If he is able to keep the bulk of this class, it could be the one that Dykes looks back on as a huge success. As of this posting, SMU is ahead of P5 teams like Cal (Dykes’ old team), Arizona State, BYU, and USC!
Usually, we do not talk about recruiting classes this early in the game. However, SMU’s 2019 recruiting class is looking extremely good. If this class holds, and they are able to pick up a few more recruits, SMU will have the best class in the G5.
This upcoming season will be an interesting one for SMU. They have a quarterback that is able to win now but will not be around for much longer. They lost some of their most talented skill receivers in Courtland Sutton and Trey Quinn too.
Sonny Dykes could have a few setbacks this season, but with this 2019 class in the fold it appears like it won’t be long before the Mustangs are routinely competing for conference titles.
