The tip drill and a little luck bring you the number six play of 2017

Beating both rivals in one year is a rarity for NM State Football. Going into 2017, however, it was an expectation. I think I speak for all Aggie fans when I say the Battle of I-25 brought a lot of anticipation. We had beaten the Lobos the year before and knew we’d need this victory for a bowl. Being that the game was on Facebook made it an even bigger deal.

The Aggies came out swinging and built a lead that New Mexico couldn’t quite overcome. Luck, a tipped pass, and talent had a little to do with that.

How Plays Were Chosen

As always, to put together this list, I compiled a list of all the big plays made by the Aggies throughout the 2017 season. I then took those plays and organized them by how important they were in terms of in game importance. I then looked at how their heroics helped shape NMSU’s run to a bowl victory.

Tip Drill!

The play you want to see is :57 into the video but it really fun to watch. Up 6-2 and starting the drive deep in their own territory, Tyler Rogers would throw a ball over the middle to a streaking Izaiah Lottie but it was slightly under-thrown. Luckily, UNM stinks and they missed the interception which then bounced into the striding hands of Lottie who bounced off a tackle and ran the rest of the 81 yards for the score.

The play itself gets major style points. What gives this play it’s spot on the list is that it helped NM State beat New Mexico for the second straight year, 30-28. Had that pass been intercepted, the Aggies might have lost the game and missed out on their first bowl win in almost 60 years.

Luck was on our side. GO AGGIES!
