The 2018 football schedule for the Sun Belt is officially out and we’re touching on every team in the league here at UDD. Next up is the program that calls Mobile home as Steve Campbell takes over this season after the school parted ways with Joey Jones.

This upcoming fall will be South’s seventh season as an FBS member as the program will be looking for their third bowl appearance. Under Campbell, the Jags will try to keep up their ability to pull upsets but will also be looking to stay more consistent on a week-to-week basis.

Quick Thoughts

  • It’s a brutal non-conference schedule for Campbell to manage in his first season. The Jags go on the road to take on Oklahoma State and Memphis in the first month. They also open the season with Louisiana Tech who figures to be a conference title contender in the C-USA. You can probably pencil the Jags in for 1-3.
  • When you look at the home schedule, the conference gave South Alabama a very favorable draw as they’ll have very winnable games against Texas State, ULM, and Coastal Carolina. The big one will occur on October 23rd when Troy comes to town.
  • On the other hand, the road slate is brutal as the Jags must make trips to both Boone and Jonesboro. For South to put up a respectable conference mark, they must take care of business at home.
