Eleven players signed national letters of intent to play for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.
The early haul for head coach Skip Holtz is small, which suggests there will be more to come. There are four other commitments listed on 247 that have yet to sign, but it will be interesting to see if Tech can pull in more players on the traditional national signing day in February.
The eleven players who have signed are almost entirely from high school, with just one JUCO transfer. They are also evenly balanced with five on offense, five on defense and one special teams player.
Some of the highlights of this class include Jakson Thomson, Mykol Clark and Jacob Barnes.
Jackson Thomson is a three-star quarterback from Dallas. He threw 21 touchdowns to just three interceptions as a senior this past season. Although he is listed as a pro-style quarterback on 247, he also ran the ball 88 times for over 600 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018. He can throw from a clean pocket, scramble to buy time, throw on the run, and he isn’t afraid of contact and can take it himself.
Mykol Clark is the highest rated Tech signee, via 247. Clark is a defensive end from Crowley, Texas. He recorded 114 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, nine sacks and four forced fumbles in 2018. With Jaylon Ferguson graduating, perhaps Clark can help fill that gap soon.
The signing of Jacob Barnes marks the continuation of a dynasty in the Louisiana Tech special teams corps. Barnes is a two-star kicker from Baton Rouge. More importantly, he is the younger brother of Jonathan Barnes, arguably the best kicker in Louisiana Tech history. The elder has high praise for the younger, so perhaps Barnes can challenge some of his brother’s school records.
Well my little brother is officially way better than I was in high school... Makes for some great brother vs brother competitions now though https://t.co/RHXVCSLoMK
