An Eminem Inspired Preview of New Mexico State vs Alcorn State

Can I have the attention of the class for one second?

Hi kids! Do you like violence? Wanna watch a game that will make you wanna stick nine inch nails through each one of your eyelids?

Then look no further than the contest being aired on AggieVision this weekend between the New Mexico State Aggies and Alcorn State Braves.

The Braves come into Saturday’s game with a 7-2 record and the Aggies...well...they come in with a 2-7 record in what many thought would be a season in which NM State would have flirt with bowl eligibility.

The Aggies really had an opportunity, one shot to seize all the momentum from last season and possibly make it to another bowl.

But they choked! Back to being joked about now! The clock’s run out, times out, over, blaow!

Snap back to reality!

What is reality? Reality is that NM State faces a real shot at losing to an FCS team on Saturday. That’s right.

Alcorn State averages 33 points a game and 458.6 yards, most of which is gained on the ground. That’s bad news for an Aggie team that has struggled defensively the past couple of weeks. In fact, they are now 118th in overall defense and give up 472.4 yards per game. They also have one of the worst scoring defenses in the nation—127th—giving up 42.3 ppg.

Lamar, oh sorry yo, we both done set the bar low.

To make matters worse, the Braves defense has been really good at causing disruptive plays. They currently have 41 sacks (41!), 87 tackles for loss, 11 interceptions, nine forced fumbles and four blocked kicks. Sure, it may be against “lesser” FCS competition but even taking that into consideration, those are still eye popping numbers.

In addition, a lot of those defensive strengths will be pitted against Aggie weaknesses, specifically special teams and protecting the quarterback. NM State has given up 29 sacks this year. Granted, they throw the ball 60 times a game so it’s to be expected for that number to be high but there have been times guys fly off the edge unblocked this year.

I won’t even get started on the special teams.

What’s worse is that most chicks don’t even know the name of our band team.

I’m not trying to be negative but I can’t lie I’m disappointed in how this season went. The positive look on things is that there are still some games left on the schedule to finish strong. We just need the team to band together and sing:

I’m not afraid, to take a stand,

Everybody!

Come take my hand, we’ll walk this world together, through the storm

Whatever weather, cold or warm,

lettin’ you know that you’re not alone.

Holla’ if you feel like you’ve been down the same road

And maybe as fans, we should sing the same.
