Dropped out: Central Michigan

New to Top 10: Northern Illinois

After being #1 from the preseason, USF has finally been usurped by San Diego State, who knocked off AP #19 Stanford at home in the quintessential #Pac12AfterDark game (the lights went out Super Bowl style, so it was also #Pac12InTheDark). Memphis had a home upset of their own, defeating Josh Rosen and the #25 UCLA Bruins in the Liberty Bowl. It didn’t get them above USF, but got them close. Northern Illinois takes the place of fellow MAC team Central Michigan in this week’s top 10 after upsetting Nebraska on the road.

San Diego State also joins USF in the AP top 25. USF is #21, while SDSU comes in right behind at #22. The Aztecs have solidified their position at the top of our poll thanks to two wins over Pac-12 teams, but the Bulls held firm with a home win over Illinois. The Tigers win over the Bruins was great, but they still have more to prove as their only other game thus far has been a close win over ULM.

Conference USA and the independents remain outside the top 10. The Sun Belt has one, the MAC two, and the rest of the ranked programs are AAC and MWC teams.

This week, our #2 South Florida Bulls kick off week 4 with a game against Temple Thursday, and the #5 Boise State Broncos follow up with a Friday night home game against the ACC’s Virginia. Major Saturday games include the #1 San Diego State Aztecs travelling to Air Force, our #4 Houston Cougars hosting Texas Tech, and the #6 Toledo Rockets travelling to AP #14 Miami.
