Underdogs Against The Spread: Top Week 3 College Football Bets

We dive into our best bets for the underdogs in Week 3, including the over when UCLA takes on Memphis.

If you've stuck with me through the first couple weeks, you're in the green. The USF vs. UConn game was postponed due to Hurricane Irma, but I went 3-1 otherwise.

West Virginia, Old Dominion and San Diego State all covered the spread, with the lone loss coming from Idaho. I really underestimated UNLV in this one. Here is what I said about that game last week:

"The "pros" are supposedly hammering the Rebels which has caused this line to drop from 9 to 6.5. Some feel that UNLV will bounce back strong after the embarrassing defeat last week and make this a competitive game. Well, they can fall for that trap. The Vandals have their own motivation this season so take the favorite at home."

Oops. Maybe sometimes you do follow the sharks. But overall, a 3-1 weekend is nothing to complain about. Now, it's about increasing the winnings. Here are my picks for Week 3.

Season record: 5-3

UCLA Bruins vs. Memphis Tigers (over 73): This will not only be one of the top games with a P5 program taking on a G5 school, but one of the best of the weekend. Both offenses can score a ton of points led by Josh Rosen and Riley Ferguson, and the defenses left some to be desired. It's an early game for the Bruins which will force them into a shootout, and that's exactly what we need to hit the over.

Virginia Tech Hokies (-22.5) at East Carolina Pirates: Until Vegas makes the adjustment on just how bad the Pirates are, I am going to continue to pick against them. Va Tech obliterated ECU last season with a score of 54-17. Expect a similar score in this game as well.

Massachusetts Minutemen (+15) at Temple Owls: I picked against UMass last week, but am backing them in this one. If you've listened to our recent AAC podcast, you heard me say the UMass might be able to go into Philly and squeak out a win. The Owls offense has scored just three touchdowns in the first two games, while the Minutemen have remained within 10 points all season. They'll do it again this week.

Troy Trojans (-7) vs. New Mexico State Aggies: The Trojans are kicking off conference play against a team they dismantled by 45 and 46 points the last two years. They're coming off a 34-7 win over Alabama St. in which they generated 605 total yards and should put up points in bunches once again.

Cincinnati Bearcats (+5) at Miami (Ohio) Red Hawks: It will be the 122nd meeting between the two programs as they battle for the Victory Bell. Cincinnati has won the last 11 games, and while streaks are meant to be broken, the five-points is strange number. Take Cincy as I expect them to win outright again.

That's my picks for Week 3. Let me know what you think in the comments below. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!
