Mean Green lose transfer DT English
Much has happened since last week’s update, most notably sophomore DT Bryce English went down with a foot injury during Tuesday’s practice.
A transfer from Kansas State, English was expected to start at nose tackle in 2017. Coach Seth Littrell confirmed to the Denton Record-Chronicle on Tuesday that English will be out several weeks, including (at least) the season opener on Sept. 2.
English, listed on the Mean Green’s website as 5’11”, 295 pounds, sat out last season after being denied a waiver by the NCAA. He had initially transferred from KSU to UNT to be closer to his father, who is battling cancer.
Expected to rotate at nose tackle with T.J. Tauaalo, it is likely Tauaalo will now move to the starting lineup.
... isn’t much of a battle. Though impressive in practice, newcomer Quinn Shanbour is still a year behind Mason Fine, who has only been improving in his second year with the team. According to Brett Vito at the Denton Record-Chronicle, who regularly attends practices, incoming freshman Cade Pearson looks to be heading for a redshirt season.
Junior DB Nate Brooks was interviewed by the DRC about the teams progress at this point in camp. Check it out below:
