Can the Mountaineers bring home their first outright Sun Belt chip?

Bovada, many people’s favorite online betting site, has released odds for conference champions today. Included was the Fun Belt and there doesn’t appear to be too many surprises.

Sun Belt Championship Odds

Team Odds
Team Odds
Appalachian State 6/5
Arkansas State 7/2
Troy 7/2
Georgia Southern 12/1
UL-Lafayette 12/1
Idaho 14/1
New Mexico State 18/1
South Alabama 18/1
Georgia State 40/1
ULM 40/1
Coastal Carolina 100/1
Texas State 100/1

Looking at these odds, it’s obvious to see that currently the conference has three tiers. At the top of the mountain is App State, as their schedule gives them the edge over Arkansas State and Troy. At the rear, Coastal Carolina and Texas State don’t figure to threaten at all as both programs need further roster development to consistently compete.

In the middle is where it gets interesting as you try to find a value play. UL-Lafayette makes sense at 12/1, but I was surprised to see Georgia Southern there. Maybe the return of the option will get the Eagles back to their winning ways. New Mexico State was a shock at 18/1 and it appears that the Aggies will compete for a bowl in 2017. If Larry Rose can stay healthy, look out for Doug Martin’s program. However, we need to pump the brakes on the Georgia State hype as it looks like the Panthers may have a first rough year under Shawn Elliott.

If you want some advice from me, play either Arkansas State or Troy. I just don’t see anyone out of that first tier winning the league and these two are right on par with App State. If the Mountaineers slip up or the injury bug hits, the game on the first weekend in December between the Red Wolves and Trojans in Jonesboro will be the de facto conference title game.

Can you make money off the Fun Belt this year?
