Vegas pegs WKU as the overwhelming favorite to win the Conference USA Championship

Vegas sees a three-peat in store for the Tops.

Bovada Sportsbook released their conference champion odds today and WKU was dubbed their betting favorite to win Conference USA. Here’s what the odds look like for the entire conference.

The breakdown on Bovada’s site right now without the fractions translates to: -140 WKU, +600 Louisiana Tech, +700 Middle Tennessee, +700 UTSA, +1000 Southern Miss, +1200 Old Dominion, +2200 Marshall, +2500 FAU, +5000 FIU, +5000 Rice, +5000 North Texas, +10000 Charlotte, +10000 UAB, +20000 UTEP.

Vegas putting WKU as the heavy favorite was a bit surprising but the shocker here is UTEP having the worst odds to win the C-USA Championship. Yes, even worse than UAB, a program that hasn’t played a game in a few years.

The best value here is La Tech and UTSA. At +700 each, all you need for them to do is to pull off the “upset” in the C-USA Championship Game. But I see great value across the board. The only stay-away bet is WKU. At -140, the Tops winning three straight conference titles isn’t too far fetched but with a first-year head coach you can never be so sure that the transition will be smooth.

Last year Vegas picked Southern Miss as the favorite to win C-USA. The Golden Eagles returned a ton of production but were also breaking in a first-year head coach in Jay Hopson.

As we know, Vegas was wrong on that one. If I had to choose right now, I’d take Louisiana Tech at +700.
