Troy Lands Three Star Defensive Tackle Anthony Pierce Jr. Over Region Rival

Defensive Lineman Chooses Troy Over South Alabama.

NCAA Football: Troy at Southern Mississippi Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

Neal Brown and the Troy Trojans raised its wall around the wiregrass of Alabama a little higher on Tuesday with the commitment of three star defensive tackle Anthony Pierce, Jr. out of Dothan, Alabama.

Pierce currently holds offers from Southern Miss, Tulane, and in-state rival South Alabama, among seven other schools. Pierce becomes the second and highest rated defensive lineman to commit to a program in the Sun Belt. The pledge should move Troy up to second from fourth in the 2018 Sun Belt recruiting rankings on 247sports.com.

At 6’1”, 293 lbs, Pierce possesses a nose for the football and shows a knack for play recognition. While not the quickest, Pierce takes smart angles towards the ball carrier, showcasing a pursuit ability that is highly coveted among defensive lineman. The Northview High School product could stand to gain some more strength, something that he admits himself, but has the potential to become a key cog in Troy’s 3-4 system.

Entering his senior year, Pierce does not have any plans to make any further visits during the season at the moment. He also does not plan on utilizing the early signing period and will instead opt to sign in February.
