Luther Ellis joins Vandals Coaching Staff

Ellis joins his sons, Kaden and Christian, as part of the Vandals football team.

LUTHER ELLISS UTAH

Luther Ellis, a former first round draft pick and All-American defensive end for the Utah Utes, will be joining the Idaho Vandals for the 2017 season. Ellis will be responsible for coaching the defensive line for the Vandals.

The news is extra special because Luther’s sons, Kaden and Christian Ellis, are both currently linebackers on the Vandals football team. Kaden will be a junior this fall while Christian will be a freshman.

Ellis is a native of Mancos, Colorado, and was a consensus All-American in 1994. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft and went on to play for the Lions for nine seasons, earning two Pro-Bowl selections in 1999 and 2000. He was released by the Lions in 2003 and finished his NFL career with the Denver Broncos.

Luther says that his playing experience greatly influences his coaching style and his methods. If that’s the case, and Luther’s coaching is as good as his play was, Vandals fans could start to become accustomed to reading articles like these.
