#1 Appalachian State Mountaineers vs #8 South Alabama Jaguars
COLORS: Black, gold
SUMMARY: While the jerseys and pants changed weekly, the black helmets were a mainstay for most of the season. Gold pants and jerseys were also worn to compliment the black sets, and an all gold with black helmets combo was worn this year too.
COLORS: Red, white, blue
SUMMARY: Team ‘Murica..err...USA took a lead over Georgia State and never looked back, cruising to a 197-107 victory. The power of the red, white, and blue compelled fans to launch the Jags into Round 2. A matchup against the Mountaineers will be tough, but an upset is achievable.
#4 Idaho Vandals vs #5 Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns
COLORS: Gold, silver
SUMMARY: While using more gray/silver in their uniforms, the Vandals were able to switch things up in 2016. After using mostly black and gold in previous years, gray seemed to be the primary color choice. The only problem with the uniforms was the lettering was difficult to read. With no contrast between the light grey and gold combinations on the helmet, viewers weren’t ever sure what the logo said.
COLORS: Vermillion, white
SUMMARY: Louisiana-Lafayette went pretty basic for most of the season with their uniforms. Each game featured red and white without many changes to their appearance. That is until Senior day, when the Ragin Cajuns pulled out an all black look. They finished the regular season by using the black helmets again, but would end the year with their all red uniforms in their bowl game.
#2 Arkansas State Red Wolves vs #7 Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks
COLORS: Black, scarlet
SUMMARY: After starting the season with four straight losses, the Red Wolves ditched the scarlet jerseys and pants in favor of an all black look. A six game winning streak followed and the uniform changes did as well. Utilizing variations of black, scarlet, and white, the Red Wolves changed things up frequently and never had a bad setup on gameday.
COLORS: Maroon, gold
SUMMARY: In what may have been the easiest matchup (uniform-wise) in the tournament, the Warhawks finished with a comfortable 194-109 win over New Mexico State. Fans will need to come out strong against a Red Wolves team who switches things up frequently. Can the maroon and gold pull of the upset?
#3 Troy Trojans vs #6 Georgia Southern Eagles
COLORS: Black, silver, cardinal
SUMMARY: Troy was a surprise team this year in college football, and fans noticed their play as well as their style. Chrome helmets and facemasks as well as metallic numbers and letter were used a lot in the Trojans uniforms. While that may have put a dent in the budget, the Trojans were noticed regardless of the result.
COLORS: Blue, white
SUMMARY: Here’s what happens when your fan base turns out to vote. Georgia Southern left no doubt in their first round matchup against Texas State, leaving with a blowout 215-88 win. While the Eagles only have a few uniform options, they are hoping simplicity fuels their run to the Sweet Sixteen.
