Uniform March Madness Round Two: C-USA Region

On to round 2 in C-USA!

NCAA Football: Middle Tennessee at Texas-San Antonio Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

The odd-looking bracket gets simpler from here on out as we head to Round Two. In Round One, Middle Tennessee handled Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss got a close win over Marshall, UTEP overcame an early deficit to defeat FIU, Charlotte squeaked past North Texas by the narrowest of margins, and UTSA absolutely blew Rice out of the water.

As we head to Round Two, our top three seeds come into play, and we even have a rivalry matchup with La Tech meeting Southern Miss! Who will progress to the Sweet Sixteen? That’s for you to decide! Bracket, poll, and descriptions are below.

#1 WKU Hilltoppers vs #9 Charlotte 49ers

NCAA Football: Boca Raton Bowl-Memphis vs Western Kentucky Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

WKU

Colors: Red, White

Brand: Russell

Summary: Their colors are officially listed as red and white, and the Hilltoppers can be seen wearing white pants and can even, occasionally, trade in their trademark chrome domes for a standard white helmet. However, the Hilltoppers also sometimes rock black as a secondary color with their red jerseys. My personal favorite part of their jerseys is the subdued WKU seal behind their chest numbers (look closely at the picture).

Charlotte

Colors: Green, White

Brand: Nike

Summary: The 49ers squeaked past North Texas 42-40, but can they take down WKU? Like the Toppers, Charlotte doesn’t limit itself to its official colors, as they often wear gold pants despite their colors being green and white. They also can rock the all-green look seen here.

#4 UTSA Roadrunners vs #5 Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders

NCAA Football: Middle Tennessee at Texas-San Antonio Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

UTSA

Colors: Blue, Orange, White

Brand: Adidas

Summary: UTSA blew out Rice 60-26, but now they face the Blue Raiders. UTSA typically wears navy blue with orange trim, with an outline of Texas on their helmets. However, they also have orange jerseys they can pull out, and can wear the Roadrunner emblem on their helmets when they so choose.

Middle Tennessee

Colors: Blue, White

Brand: Nike

Summary: After defeating Florida Atlantic 52-32, MTSU faces UTSA. Like their rivals in Bowling Green, MTSU has chrome helmets although they wear them less often. They usually wear blue and white, but the white can be replaced by grey at any time. They’ve even occasionally worn grey jerseys on the road. They also have an all-black look with blue trim.

#2 Old Dominion Monarchs vs #10 UTEP Miners

NCAA Football: North Carolina State at Old Dominion Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Old Dominion

Colors: Blue, Silver, Light Blue

Brand: Under Armour

Summary: The Monarchs feel no need for a large closet; they keep it simple with a dark blue look. On the road they can change just the jersey to white, or they can go all white. Sometimes, consistency is just as good as variety.

NCAA Football: Southern Mississippi at Texas El Paso Ivan Pierre Aguirre-USA TODAY Sports

UTEP

Colors: Blue, Orange, Silver

Brand: Nike

Summary: UTEP took out FIU 47-37, and now faces another eastern team. The Miners typically wear their trademark orange, but every once in a while can show off their navy blue unis. The UTEP logo is typically on their helmets, but a simpler pick ax can also sometimes be found on their hats.

#3 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs #6 Southern Miss Golden Eagles

Louisiana Tech

Colors: Blue, Red

Brand: Adidas

Summary: Louisiana Tech has really upped its uniform game over the past couple of years, highlighted by the switch to Adidas this past year, but they’ve managed to simultaneously stay true to their classic look. The standard at home is white helmet, blue jersey, and white pants, but they can also wear blue pants. They have started wearing their alternate red more often, which can be done with white helmets and pants or all red. The default on the road is all white (which, fun fact, was first worn against Southern Miss in 2014), but they can also wear red or blue pants. The red pants can be matched with red helmets, as well.

NCAA Football: Rice at Southern Mississippi Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

Southern Miss

Colors: Black, Gold

Brand: Russell

Summary: The Golden Eagles won a narrow victory over Marshall 52-46 and now face their west division rivals. Southern Miss consistently wears all black with yellow trim at home. Even on the road, they will typically stick to black pants and helmets, although they also have white pants.
