Troy Trojans 2017 Schedule Announced

Troy’s 2017 schedule offers ample opportunity for the Trojans to build off their 2016 season.

The Sun Belt Conference released the schedules for 2017 football season today and many are wondering how the scheduling will play out. The Troy faithful are excited for the upcoming 2017 season.

April 15th

Troy’s T-day game is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the Trojan fans will see which players will fill the holes in the team.

September 2nd @Boise State

Troy opens up the 2017 season at Boise State. This will be a good match-up and an early challenge for both teams. This will be a great game to watch because each team is projected to be near the top of their conferences.

September 9th vs. Alabama State

Alabama State will be Troy’s first home game of the season. This is a great way to start at home for the Trojans. A good in-state game will help demonstrate what kind of football is played in Alabama.

September 16th @New Mexico State

Troy’s first Sun Belt Conference game will be on the road against New Mexico State. This game’s outcome might be the same as the 2016 season. Troy still has a majority of impacted players that played last season.

September 23rd vs. Akron

Troy and Akron will be what you’ll expect. The Zipps will put up a good fight but will probably fall short to the Trojans. Majority of Akron’s losses were less than two possessions last season.

September 30th @LSU

This will be a true test of strength for the Trojans as they travel to Baton Rouge. This could be an exciting game to watch. Last season Troy put on a good show against Clemson and could do the same against LSU. Troy had a strong run-stopping defense last season and LSU had a pretty good run game with many young tailbacks. A good run stopping defense and good running offense could make for a great game.

October 11th vs. South Alabama

This really isn’t good scheduling putting this game on a Wednesday night. Tuesday and Thursday would be understandable. But a Wednesday? No. A rivalry game is supposed to have a huge build-up of emotions and hype that should be long awaited. This game will still have its hype but not as much as it would have been had it been scheduled on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night.

October 21st @Georgia State

Troy will travel to Atlanta to take on the Panthers. This could be the same outcome as the 2016 season where Georgia State will hang around for a quarter or so and Troy will move ahead by two or more possessions.

October 28th vs. Georgia Southern

This game will be a challenge for Troy. The Trojans still haven’t beaten the Eagles since they joined the Sun Belt Conference. Home field advantage could help the Trojans overcome their 0-4 record against the Eagles.

November 2nd vs. Idaho

This game will be a Thursday night game. The Trojans and Vandals will put on a good show. Idaho played well against Troy last season. The Vandals also went 8-4 in 2016 and was third in the conference and could make this a great game to watch in 2017.

November 11th @Coastal Carolina

Welcome to the Sun Belt Coastal Carolina. This should be an interesting game due to the fact these teams have never played each other. This game will be an unknown outcome until the 2017 season begins.

November 25th vs. Texas State

Senior night. This will be the last home game for Troy for the 2017 season. The Bobcats will show up a little bit but the Trojans should overcome it. Troy could win by two or more possessions as Everret Whithers is still rebuilding Texas State.

December 2nd @Arkansas State

What a great way to end the season by playing a rival and a conference foe who could take the Sun Belt. Both teams look like they can take the Sun Belt in 2017. Regardless of the 35-3 loss last season against the Red Wolves, Troy will be looking for revenge. This will be a hard task due to this being at Arkansas State’s home field.

All in all this schedule looks good for the Trojans.. The big games will be Boise State, LSU, South Alabama, Georgia Southern, Idaho, and Arkansas State. Troy should be in store for another great season in 2017.
