New Mexico State Announces Home and Home Series with Georgia Southern

New Mexico State adds a familiar opponent to their future schedule

The New Mexico State Aggies have announced a new home and home series with Georgia Southern, beginning in 2018 via their team’s twitter page.

While this may be confusing to some that this series would even be scheduled, (Georgia Southern and NMSU already play each other in the Sun Belt), it is a very important step for the NMSU football program as they make the transition to FBS Independent status (again).

With at least 18 games left to be scheduled between the 2018 and 2019 seasons, time is slowly running out for the New Mexico State football program to try and find quality opponents who want to play them. Especially since the NMSU athletics department had hoped to have the 2018 schedule finished by the time the 2016 football season started.

Add in the fact that A.D. Mario Moccia has said in the past that he doesn’t want to schedule past the 2019 season, and you could possibly be looking at the last two seasons of Aggies football in the FBS (or ever) depending on how challenging these two seasons will be to schedule for.

But that’s all purely speculation on my part, and hopefully we will all look back at this article one day and laugh at how wrong it was.

For now, let’s just enjoy the fact that NMSU has four games scheduled for the 2018 season. And hey, if you agree with me that NMSU football might fold after the 2019 season, you might want to take advantage of the opportunity to try out later this month.
