Update: Obinna Eze is no longer the highest ranked recruit to sign in G5. Cordarrian Richardson is now due to his late commitment to UCF.

After a solid 8-5 season in Mike Norvell’s first year as the head coach, Memphis continues trend in the right direction as four star offensive tackle Obinna Eze has officially joined the Memphis Tigers.

According to 247Sports Composite ranking system Eze becomes the best prospect in the 2017 class to sign with a G5 school. Eze is ranked as the 211th best prospect in the country. Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, and Eze has been committed to sign with Memphis since last August.

The fact Memphis was able to stave off SEC schools for the coveted lineman (especially rival Ole Miss) is a huge coup for Mike Norvell on the recruiting trail.

In a state that is known for producing highly touted prospects that end up going elsewhere, it’s great for Memphis to hold on to one of the best players in Tennessee.

Eze joins wide receiver Jae’lon Oglesby as the second four star player to sign with Memphis in the past three years.

After Houston became the first G5 school to sign a five star player in Ed Oliver, the American Athletic Conference for the second straight year will hold the honor of bringing home the best prospect to sign with a G5 school.

Memphis currently has the ??? ranked class nationally, and is projected to finish with the best class in the G5.
