New Mexico State Signs Nine New Players to Open Up New National Signing Day

Twelve more expected to sign in February

NCAA Football: New Mexico State at Arkansas Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

The first early national signing day period has come and gone and the Aggies did not disappoint. Nine players signed their National Letters of Intent to play in the City of Crosses.

Coach Martin has said that both offensive and defensive line, along with defensive backs were the main focus for this class.

New Mexico State currently has the Sun Belt’s ninth ranked recruiting class but that does not include QB Matthew Romero, S Lautoa Nomura, and DT commit Kai Golden, so that ranking is actually higher than it is.

The current breakdown of the class is as follows: 1 QB, 1 TE, 3 OL (will be four), 1 DT, 1 DE, 1 LB, and 1 S.

Here is a closer look at each of the newest New Mexico State Aggies!

Matthew Romero-Quarterback

Measureables: 6’2”, 200 lbs.

From: San Marcos, CA (Palomar College)

Matthew Romero isn’t ranked by 247sports but will enroll at NMSU for spring practice and will compete for playing time with QB Tyler Rogers graduating after next week’s bowl game.

Romero played two seasons (21 games) for the Palomar College Comets. During his time there he threw for 5,489 yards and 49 touchdowns, while also rushing for one touchdown this past year.

He looks like a solid pickup and I’m excited to see his ceiling as an Aggie!

Austin Young-Offensive Line

Measureables: 6’4”, 300 lbs.

From: Goodyear, Arizona (Desert Edge High School)

Austin Young is an offensive lineman that is just what the Aggies need: a big, long guy to push people off the ball. I am really excited for all of the incoming freshman for next year, and have been watching them for quite some time.

Austin is a two star recruit and is rated the 52nd best OL in the state and 57th in the country, according to 247sports. He is ranked by USA Today as the 49th best recruit in Arizona.

Young committed to the Crimson and White over UTEP, Hawaii, New Mexico and UNLV. In other news NMSU has sold nearly 7,000 bowl tickets. TAKE NOTE MOUNTAIN WEST!

Max Wilhite-Offensive Line

Measureables: 6’3”, 301 lbs.

From: Goodyear, Arizona (Desert Edge High School)

Max Wilhite is a three star prospect from the same high school as Austin Young. Wilhite is a versatile OL and can play guard and center, which can come in handy if injuries occur.

Max is the 23rd best prospect in Arizona and sixth best OL according to 247 sports. Wilhite had offers from NMSU, Northern Arizona and Air Force.

Check out his highlights below!

Lautoa Nomura-Safety

Measureables: 6’1”, 195 lbs.

From: Santa Ana, California (Santa Anna College)

Our second JUCO commit is safety Lautoa Nomura. He has played two seasons of college football and will enroll in time for spring practice.

This year he has played in nine games and has made 24 tackles, one interception and three pass breakups. As a freshman, he had 38 tackles including one for a loss.

Nomura is not ranked by 247sports, but if he’s anything like Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year Ron LaForce, we’ll be just fine!

Grant Mileski-Tight End

Measureables: 6’5”, 230 lbs.

From: Scottsdale, Arizona (Horizon High School)

Grant Mileski is a two star recruit according to 247sports. He had offers from South Dakota State and Northern Arizona. Mileski can also play DE so there is a chance he is converted but I think he will stay a tight end at NMSU.

Isaiah Mursalat-Offensive Line

Measureables: 6’4”, 285 lbs.

From: Scottsdale, Arizona (Horizon High)

Isaiah is a two star recruit who committed to the Aggies over FBS programs Nevada and Liberty, as well as new FCS program Idaho.

He is one of three Aggie commits from Horizon High School and is the 29th overall prospect in the state of Arizona.

Justin Segura-Defensive Tackle

Measureables: 6’3”, 250 lbs.

From: Scottsdale, Arizona (Horizon High)

Justin Segura is a two star defensive tackle who can also play offensive line. This kid has some speed and is really an exciting player to watch.

Segura committed to NMSU over New Mexico, Fresno State, Hawaii and Northern Arizona so he is definitely a huge get for Coach Martin and his staff.

Devin Richardson-Linebacker

Measureables: 6’3”, 215 lbs.

From: Spring, Texas (Klein High School)

Devin Richardson is one of the newest commits to NMSU, choosing the Aggies over Utah, New Mexico and Southern University. He is another player to watch as I think he will be playing sooner than later.

Richardson is a three star recruit according to 247sports. Just like NMSU, he helped his high school team make history with a winning record in back to back seasons for the first time since 2012-2013.

Arnold Saidov-Defensive End

Measureables: 6’2”, 225 lbs.

From: Keller, Texas (Fossil Ridge)

Saidov is another exciting player for the Aggies. A fast, two star recruit, Arnold committed to New Mexico State despite being labeled a sleeper recruit by 247sports.

In six games this year, he recorded 67 tackles, 13 sacks, four forced fumbles while also recovering two.
