Week 13 is done, and the field of bowl eligible teams is almost set. There are 79 bowl eligible teams for 78 bowl spots, and next week’s action could provide as many as three more. Someone is getting left home.
We’ve known for a few weeks that Army was going to the Armed Forces Bowl, but two more teams have accepted bowl bids now. UAB will be facing Ohio in the Bahamas Bowl, which is typically announced early so everyone can prepare for a trip to a foreign country.
In this week’s projections, I had to leave three teams at home. By no means am I guaranteeing it will be these three, but for now I’m projecting WKU, Middle Tennessee, and Buffalo to miss out. The Poinsettia Bowl shutting down has cost two bowl spots, and we’re seeing the effects of that this year.
