Game Preview

On Saturday, the Aggies will take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves/Indians in a fittingly themed “Homecoming” game.

You see, it’s been a whole month since the New Mexico State Aggies played a game at Aggie Memorial Stadium, leaving Coach Doug Martin in the awkward position of having to remind fans that the football team still exists.

As ridiculous as that is, it should mean the fans come out in droves and make it hard on the Red Wolves offense!

The Aggies are coming off a bye that has allowed them to rest and get a lot of key players healthy and prepare for a dangerous team. Only DE Stody Bradley is questionable for today’s game.

Defense will be the key to victory for NMSU today, as the Arkansas State offense has been on fire lately.

Thankfully, Frank Spaziani has the defense much improved as they rank 65th in total defense averaging 388.1 yards per game. They will be challenged, however, by the 21st ranked Red Wolves offense who averages 474 yards per game.

The Red Wolves have a senior laden team and are dominant in the Sun Belt, winning 18 of their past 19 conference games.

Fortunately for the Aggies, they have a potent offense too (25th in nation) and will be at full strength with Larry Rose III, Jaleel Scott and Dezmand Candelarie all back.

Prediction

This game should be exciting and full of points. Tonight, two of the Sun Belt’s best quarterbacks will face off in a night game at Aggie Memorial Stadium. You can’t get any better than that.

The Aggies have a really great chance to pull out a victory but I have to give the edge to the Red Wolves since they know how to win and their defense is more proven than the Aggies.
