Temple got off to slow start this season losing 28-13 to Army at home. They played bad on both sides of the ball with the offense turning the ball and the defense unable to stop the Black Knights triple option attack. The Owl’s defense failed to remain disciplined against Army which opened up gaps for the run game to shred them. Senior Phillip Walker played what was most likely his worst game as a starting quarterback, passing for under 200 yards with three picks. The Cadets rushed for 329 yards with fullback Andy Davidson gaining 121 on 22 carries with two touchdowns while Temple only rushed for 83 yards. Coach Rhule will have his team prepared and ready to go against Stony Brook.
The Seawolves upset #19 North Dakota 13-9 in a FCS matchup to open their season in a defensive struggle. Stony Brook only had 221 total yards and fumbled four times, losing two, to go with their seven penalties. This is game that Temple should win be able to win at home.
Prediction:
Temple should be able to control this game from the start against an FCS team. Jahad Thomas will miss the game with a dislocated thumb, but they should be able to get the run game going with their deep backfield. Expect Phillip Walker to bounce back and perform better than his three interceptions against Army. The Owls should be ready to play this week after being called out by their coach. Matt Rhule was not happy with his teams performance saying, “We were not committed to being as physical as we needed to be.” The Temple coaching staff is working to have the team ready to play hard on both sides of the ball against the Seawolves tomorrow.
