The USA Today Coaches Poll is out and to the surprise of no one the Houston Cougars are the only G5 team to make an appearance as the Cougars are ranked no. 13.

Last year Boise State was the only G5 team to appear in the preseason poll as they started the season ranked no. 24.

The last time Houston appeared in the preseason poll was in 1991 when they started the season ranked no. 12.

Its only been a year, but the Cougars have come a long way under the direction of Tom Herman and with week one opponent Oklahoma entering the season ranked no. 3 the Cougars have a huge opportunity to climb up the rankings in their quest to enter the College Football Playoff.

Boise State, San Diego State, Western Kentucky, Marshall, Appalachian State, USF, Memphis, Navy, Toledo and Northern Illinois round out the underdogs to be mentioned in the preseason poll as they all received votes to enter the top 25.
